What is brand therapy?
Brand therapy is a 90-minute conversation about your business, followed by a written brand diagnosis and a 30-minute call to walk through it together. It happens before any design work, because its job is to find out what your brand should be saying before anyone decides what it should look like.
Is brand therapy actual therapy?
No. I’m a brand strategist and creative director, not a mental health professional. Brand therapy is the name for what the session feels like: ninety minutes of honest questions about your business that nobody else asks. The couch is metaphorical. The roadmap is real.
What happens in the ninety minutes?
I ask questions and you answer them out loud, which is harder and more useful than filling in a form. What do your best clients say about you that you always brush off? Who is not your client, and how do you know? What do you apologize for before you send someone your website?
I’m not listening for the polished version. I’m listening for the sentence you say when you stop performing, because that sentence is usually the brand. Most people have already said the most important thing about their business many times. They just said it to a client over coffee and never wrote it down.
What do you walk away with?
A written brand diagnosis. It names what makes you different, in words your customers would actually repeat. It says what to fix first and what can wait. It says what your brand should be saying that it isn’t. And it recommends the work your business needs, and only that.
Then we spend thirty minutes going through it together. The diagnosis is yours to keep, whether you work with me or with someone else.
Why do this before the logo?
Because every design tool ever made has gotten faster at the making, and not one of them has ever told me what the thing should say. That was never a tools problem. Somebody has to stand outside your business and show you what is actually there.
When I joined Percona as creative director, the company had spent three years and an outside agency trying to find its logo. The whole team spent their time together climbing mountains, and nobody inside could see it, because they were inside it. I didn’t invent the mountain. I held up the mirror. That mark is still Percona’s logo, two websites later.
That is the job. I don’t tell you who you are. I show you.
Who is brand therapy for?
Founders of service based businesses, people whose name is the business, and small teams that have outgrown the brand they started with. If you are brilliant at what you do and the outside doesn’t match the inside yet, this is for you. Nobody thinks they need brand therapy. Then they read their diagnosis.
What does it cost?
Brand therapy is $600. If you book a design package within 90 days, the full $600 comes off the price, so the session costs you nothing extra.
How do I start?
With a free twenty-minute hello, where we both decide whether this is a fit. If you would rather test the water first, the Brand Smart Check is ten questions and about three minutes, and it will tell you whether any of this sounds like you.
Sound like you?
Everything starts with a free twenty-minute hello, where we both decide whether this is a fit. Or take the Brand Smart Check first: ten questions, about three minutes, and a straight answer.
